Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to Shit That Comes Out Today, your Satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we usually stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up.

after the burial dig deepAfter The Burial
Dig Deep (Sumerian)
On a playlist with: Born Of Osiris, Veil Of Maya, Bury Your Dead
Listen Dig Deep full stream (here)

According to Axl’s Dragon Dildo: “I miss the days of Rareform.” This lucid-in-thought/lurid-in-name MetalSucks commentator does have a valid concern. That 2008 release pretty much set After The Burial into sonic concrete as the djent-core band not to be fucked with. Rightfully so: Rareform is through-and-through sexellent, up there with BOO’s The New Reign (2007). Those were the days, right, almost ten years ago? Subsequent ATB releases got softer, trendier, and generally just crappier. Dig Deep is their hot chance to come back.

Hypno5e - Shores of the Abstract lineHypno5e
Shores Of The Abstract Line (Pelagic)
On a playlist with: the lovechild of Textures + The Ocean + Xerath
Listen “East Shore: In Our Deaf Lands” (here) “North Shore: The Abstract Line” (here)

Excuse the mention: transplanting numbers for letters is so 1995. That said, who gives a shit? The French more or less just do what they want. And good on them, cause Shores Of The Abstract Line stands by itself with massive resolve and stonewall confidence. What the heck is “progressive” nowadays? Nigh everything is progressive, or just avant-garde, which is just prog with trend. When everything is progressive, you are forced to re-think. Re-tool. Re-do. Re-progress. Hypno5e kno5e.

Cirith GorgorCirith Gorgor
Visions Of Exalted Lucifer (Hammerheart)
On a playlist with: Shrine Of Insanabilis, Nightbringer, Wiegedood
Listen Visions Of Exalted Lucifer full stream (here)

Rejoice, your black metal lust can be satiated for at least one more week! This especially Luciferian release is pretty straight-forward in terms of theme: get a fuckin’ load of that album artwork. Underneath the wrappings you’ll discover long, energetic swaths of luxurious and sumptuous blastbeat action. The occasional riff here and there doesn’t hurt, either. The end product is nothing else but polished, modern, unpretentious, and fast.

LoboLobo
Älma (Signal Rex)
On a playlist with: Kauan, Mesathirm
Listen Älma full stream (here)

Oftentimes purely ambient/atmospheric albums overstay their welcome. Unless you are in a serious chill-out mood, they tend to wisp away in the air like a fart, not leaving you with any solid material. Älma listens just like a much more “involved” album, but without losing any of those hard-to-nail cathartic, ethereal qualities. This album is so relaxing yet just as deeecent as the other epic (louder) shit that came out today. Keep this album on hand for a rainy day, you cannot be let down.

Satanic Surgery (Hammerheart)
On a playlist with: being senselessly stabbed about 47 times
Listen Satanic Surgery full stream (here)

In lieu of going on and on and on about how fucking sweet this album is, just read through the song titles, in order: “Cripple The Cross,” “Touch Me, Jesus,” “Filthy Feeder,” “Piece Of Shit From The Tar Pit,” “Necromantic Love Affair,” “All You Need Is Hate,” “A Healthy Dose of Radiation,” “Satanic Surgery,” “Antichrist Gulag,” “Diabolic Death Wish,” “Operation: Meatcleaver” (my favorite), “Blood Soaked Graveyard,” and “Aggressive Assassination.”

·

entropiaEntropia
Ufonaut (Arachnophobia)
On a playlist with: Awe, Yellow Eyes, Krallice
Listen Ufonaut full stream (here)

I quipped in my Yellow Eyes review something about these new black metal albums carefully balancing modern structure and post-mod feels (though not always diametrically opposed). Too rigid and the album comes out as trite and manufactured. Too loosey-goosey and then it’s a brilliant-or-die situation. Ufonaut takes some seriously risky reaches, but never looses sight of a unified vision. On that basis it is a pretty goddamn solid release, to say the least.
