WSOU Picks of the Week: Obscura, Swallow the Sun, Magrudergrind, and Moon Tooth
Seton Hall University’s WSOU radio is the only all-metal, all-the-time station currently broadcasting in the US, and as been a force in metal for DECADES. Each week, the staff of WSOU share their picks for the heaviest of the heavy, as well as their charts for that week, right here on MetalSucks. Enjoy:

Obscura – “Arkoasis”
Not much can be said about these technicians that hasn’t been already. Since the single dropped, it has consistently found its way into the Top 10 and even Top 5 of our new music charts. It came in at number seven this week, and rightfully so. Steffen Kummerer shows why he is by far one of the most talented, and somehow still underrated, guitarists of all time.
Margrudergrind – “Sacrificial Hire”
A chaotic frenzy of hardcore and grindcore collide for this frigid winter.
Magrudergrind’s new album, II, has something for hardcore dudes and metalheads alike. Don’t sleep on it.
II officially drops on February 12 on Relapse, and the week after the band playing the official record release show at The Acheron with Incendiary, Triac and Mutilation Rites. Wild.

Swallow the Sun – “10 Silver Bullets”
Not many bands can pull off double or triple albums, as it feels like there is just way too much filler in-between the substance of the record. Swallow the Sun released Songs from the North I, II, and II in November of last year, and from the second it came out, it automatically jumped to the top half of my end of year list. Each album tells a different story, whether it is the classic StS style of the first, the beautiful acoustic second album, or the thundering funeral doom of the third.
Moon Tooth – “Queen Wolf”
A little bit of shameless self-promotion, because Moon Tooth is playing the WSOU Thirtieth Anniversary of Metal show at Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken, alongside WSOU favorites Candiria and Old Wounds (get tickets here). I had no idea who they were until they played Metal Injection’s 2015 SXSW showcase, and they absolutely blew my mind: they had a combination of franticness and melody that I have not heard since I first head The Dillinger Escape Plan. Their new album, Chromaparagon, drops on February 5th.
