News Round-Up: Superjoint Recording New Album, GNR Getting Insane Money for Reunion Shows, Stuck Mojo Split with Bonz (Again) and More
Good morning. It’s 45 degrees and cloudy here in NYC on this Wednesday, December 30th. How’s the weather wherever you are?
Here are some stories that have developed in the world of metal over the past 24 hours:
- In case you missed it, news broke that Lemmy was diagnosed with tumors on his neck and brain just two days before he died; he had been given two to six months to live. Also, video footage of Motorhead’s final show has surfaced.
- Also in case you missed it, the “classic” lineup of Guns N’ Roses has been confirmed for Coachella this coming April, with a football stadium tour said to be in the works. The lineup will consist of Axl, Slash, Duff, longtime keyboardist Dizzy Reed and two members TBA — rumored to be Axl’s sidemen of the past several years, Richard Fortus (guitar) and Frank Ferrer (drums) — but not Appetite musicians Izzy Stradlin and Steven Adler (or Illusions drummer Matt Sorum). The group is reportedly asking ridiculous sums north of $3 million per show.
- The reunited Superjoint (aka Superjoint Ritual) are recording a new album at Phil Anselmo’s Nodferatu’s Lair studio in Louisiana. Check out some photos from the session on photographer Jody Dorignac’s Instagram, including the below of Anselmo with Jimmy Bower:
- Bobby Blotzer’s scab version of Ratt played their first show on December 26th in Ohio after winning a legal battle with Warren DeMartini. You can watch the drummer and four other random dudes crap all over Ratt’s legacy in the footage below:
- Skid Row have parted ways with vocalist Tony Harnell, who had just joined the band this past May. He had replaced Johnny Solinger, who’d been the band’s frontman for the past fifteen years after Sebastian Bach’s departure. It’s not likely that news of any singer in Skid Row who isn’t Sebastian Bach will affect their draw much, but you never know.
- Stuck Mojo have already parted ways with vocalist Bonz and bassist Corey Lowery — the original lineup — just a year after playing some successful reunion shows. For Lowery’s part, he’s probably just too busy with new band Saint Asonia, but Bonz’s history with guitarist/mastermind Rich Ward has always been rocky. A new album has already been recorded with two new members and is expected out in 2016.
- A man in Madison, Wisconsin lost it when the bartender changed the music from Black Sabbath to something Christmas-themed, throwing a bottle of beer at her head, screaming expletives, damaging property and storming out the door after being restrained by other patrons. Shocker of all shockers: the man was eventually arrested.
