Decibel Announces Choosing Death Fest, Featuring Dying Fetus, Nails, Misery Index, and More
Not content to put on what’s sure to be one of the best tours of 2016, our favorite magazine, Decibel, has announced that it’s going to put on what will probably be one of the best festivals of 2016: Choosing Death Fest. The line-up is totally bonkers:
Wow. Just… wow.*
As you may have guessed, the fest is meant to celebrate Decibel editor-in-chief Albert Mudrian’s Choosing Death: The Improbable History of Death Metal and Grindcore, which is the definitive account of the creation of the titular genre (get a super-duper special limited edition expanded autographed copy here). To that end, the fest’s organizers promise that “most—if not all—of the bands will be performing at least one old-school death metal cover.” A fest with a theme! I love it! I wonder what songs the bands will choose? I know the Magrudergrind dudes are huge Napalm Death fans; I sincerely hope they cover “You Suffer” because, y’know, why the hell wouldn’t you?
ANYWAY, “a variety of special guests and events tied to the fest” will be announced after the New Year, as if you needed any more incentive to attend. The fest happens April 16; tickets go on sale here this Saturday, December 19. They’re just $22 in advance, which is a total deal! (They’re $25 day of show, but why would you wait ’til day of show to get tickets for this?!?)
*P.S., I didn’t even know who Taphos Nomos were until now, but I am fully on board. Listen to their awesome, awesomely-titled album, West of Everything Lies Death, below.
