Video: In the Studio with Producer Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Suicide Silence, Exhumed)
There’s a reason we asked Will Putney to produce our Converse Rubber Tracks x MetalSucks sessions two years running: he’s an incredibly versatile producer and there’s no set “Will Putney sound.”
Producers call this trait “transparency;” rather than putting his own sonic imprint on every band he works with, Will adapts to each band to bring out their best qualities and give them a sound all their own, an incredibly important characteristic in an era where so many metal bands’ records sound exactly the same.
Metal Injection’s Frank Godla sat down with Will at the Converse Rubber Tracks Brooklyn recording studio during the September CRTxMetalSucks sessions for a quick chat. In the video clip that follows Will speaks on giving artists their own identity through their recordings, and also talks shop about some of his favorite gear and what it’s like recording five bands in five days.
Listen to the tracks Will recorded for CRTxMetalSucks that’ve been released so far, with more on the way this week and next.
And also be sure to check out a similar clip we shot with Kurt Ballou, who produced the CRTxMetalSucks Boston sessions.
