Le Bataclan to Reopen

After Friday’s horrible tragedy, everyone is now familiar with Paris venue Le Bataclan, from your average metalhead to human cancers who deserve to die with their dicks in their mouths.

A new piece in Billboard profiles the venue’s storied history — it was opened in 1864, and has actually been the target of threats from Islamic Extremists for the last five years — and includes a promise from co-manager Dominique Revert:

“It will reopen, no question about it,” he says. “Hearts will be heavy for a few months, a few years. But we will reopen. We will not surrender.”

Which is one hell of a move.

While I respect Revert’s determination in the face of horror, I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, rock and roll shouldn’t cower beneath this kind of attack, and Le Bataclan reopening would be a loogie in the face of those religious zealot bastards who want to scare you into living under their tyranny. The first show at the reopened Le Bataclan will (hopefully) be a celebration of the fact that you can’t stop music, no matter how many of us you mow down in cold blood.

But on the other hand, 89 killed in a terrorist hostage crisis leaves one hell of a stain on the heart of a building. I can’t help but feel that Le Bataclan is now a solemn place. There are souls there, in a way. And maybe it should be left as that, a monument to those that perished. I felt the same way about the World Trade Center when it was became the 9/11 Memorial Museum. This place is forever changed, and maybe we should respect that. It’s all fine until someone finds a tooth.
