Anthrax Spreading The Disease 30th Anniversary

Hello MetalSucks reader! Welcome to the new Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below) — all for your jammage! Now crank this shit up!

AbhorrentAbhorrent
Intransigence (Willowtip)
On a playlist with: Horrendous, Soreption, Cattle Decapitation
Listen “Intransigence” (here) “The Elegance Of Asymmetry” (here)

Riff-heavy technical death metal with some neu-blackened influences. This sounds super-genericore nowadays — however, do not be fearful of the formulaic! Don’t be! Actually, while Abhorrent has marked commonalities with its playlist buds, Intransigence is a distinctive album. This band has taken all the non-abhorrent bits from other bands and blended them into a fucking diesel-powered milkshake named Bruce… so, this is not a bad fact to swallow.

ContrarianContrarian
Polemic (Willowtip)
On a playlist with: the fuck-child of Rings of Saturn and Mastodon
Listen “Polemic” (here)

With the dude from Nile behind the kit — he is George Kollias and he drums faster than fuck — you’d expect some seriously hard and fast shit. Actually, Contrarian is progressive and spacey, as that wacky album art would suggest. Anywho, the music contained in Polemic, it’s not actually polemic: It would rater give into your opinions against it and stand alone. And strong opinions they may be! As this album is for a very niche crowd of dorks.

RamlehRamleh
Circular Time (Crucial Blast)
On a playlist with: dirty Earth, Guardian Alien, heavy Maserati
Listen Circular Time full stream (here)

Jesus, I can’t get enough of these hyperbolic band descriptions: “Still forged from a simple but savage combination of pummeling mogodon drumming, monstrously overloaded synthesizers and elliptical, sludge-encrusted bass riffs that anchor the squalls of brutal, electrified guitar noise that crash across these thirteen tracks, Ramleh’s sound remains hypnotically crushing.” Yeah, they’re right, but they’re not that right, i.e. this baby needs more goddamn metal.

magic circleMagic Circle
Journey Blind (20 Buck Spin)
On a playlist with: riding in your red convertible with a babe while doing coke
Listen Journey Blind full stream (here)

“Never forget the past! Never!” Okay, that shit gets screamed all the time, whether at political events or family gatherings, grandma’s funeral, whathaveyou. Magic Circle is a throwback band, but not in the honor-your-gods sense. Also, not in a sense of simply recreating from the ashes what was written back then. As far as reinterpretations go, Journey Blind is a pretty transparent and honest one, despite the king-hipster pretenses and obnoxiously dark feel-good attitude.

·

SturmovikSturmovik
Destination Nowhere (Selfmadegod)
On a playlist with: Disfear, Kvelertak, The Crown
Listen Destination Nowhere full stream (here)

Bands like Sturmovik and albums like Destination Nowhere are a dime-a-dozen sorta deal. Blah, blah, blah, album is boring, rote, repetitive, unoriginal, yada, yada, yada. Reality is bigger than that! These albums actually rule, you just need a pile of them! These are playlist albums: just line them up one after another! The juicy reward is hours and hours of hair-raising pump music, it increases productivity and metabolization, etc.

·

DodsferdDodsferd
Wastes Of Life (Moribund)
On a playlist with: Horna, Baptism, Satanic Warmaster
Listen Wastes Of Life full stream (here)

The joy is strong with this one. Song titles such as “Sterile Death, Without Mourning” and “To The Fall Of Man” really exhibit Dodsferd’s sunny nature. Yeah, Wastes Of Life is a pretty harrowing album, though not the most harrowing. Interpolated throughout are smooth bits which ease you into a state of okay-being with all the horrors/sufferings of being alive. But then you’re thrown back into a shit-storm! Oh, woe.
