The History of Metal and Horror Documentary Will Feature Interviews with Kirk Hammett, Alice Cooper, Charlie Benante, Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis, John 5, and More
I don’t need to tell you that metal and horror go together like Jägermeister and vomit; I’m sitting here wearing a black t-shirt with a monster on it, and you probably are, too. These are two niche genres which are largely interested in exploring the darker side of human nature, pushing the limits of what’s considered to be “in good taste,” and flipping the bird at the overly conservative mainstream.
So it’s kinda shocking that it took so long for someone to think to make a documentary called The History of Metal and Horror.
As you can probably guess from the title, this documentary will be all about the effects of the industrial revolution on agrarian economics. No, kidding, obviously it’s about the history of heavy metal and horror. It’s a work in progress, but the filmmakers have already snagged interviews with a lot of metal and horror’s heaviest hitters, including (from the metal world) Kirk Hammett, Alice Cooper, Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis, Charlie Benante, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Twiggy Ramirez, John 5, Brian Slagel, Jose Mangin (and from the horror world) Tom Savini, Sid Haig, Gunnar Hansen, Doug Bradley, and more. Here’s a trailer:
Looks fun, right? And in addition to all those interviews, a press release tells us that “The documentary will also include a wraparound film which will serve to tie all the segments together.” I’m assuming that part will be narrative/fiction. Sounds very Creepshow, no?
Here’s the thing: the filmmakers need your help to finish it! They’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000 to complete the doc; as of this writing, they’re just of $9k and have almost another month to go, so they could very well hit their goal.
