Exclusive Premiere: Vanna Cover Metallica’s “Fuel”
Vanna, our new favorite band, release a covers EP called Alt today via Pure Noise Records! The fantastically double-meaning-titled EP features covers of songs by The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Korn and Metallica, all bands that presumably played a heavy influence on their sound.
And today MetalSucks is pleased to premiere Vanna’s cover of Metallica’s “Fuel.” “Wait… THAT’S the Metallica song they chose to cover???” we can already hear the MS hoi polloi exclaiming. Admittedly, we were a bit surprised too. But here’s the thing: “Fuel” is not only a pretty cool song — especially given the heavy treatment here by Vanna — but vocalist Davey Muise has already anticipated your criticism, explaining:
I hate when people said after Metallica cut their hair it was over. False, they were making themselves more aerodynamic for riffage like “Fuel.” I dare you to put this track on in a car and not get pulled over for speeding. This track not only opened so many doors for the band, it blew them right off the hinges. All hail the kings.
How’s that for a controversial opinion? Regardless what you think of the original, Vanna definitely blew the hinges off this cover. Stream it below and watch the video too. Order Alt right here. Tour dates after the embed.
