Chthonic Crowdfund New Concert, Include Unwashed Stage Costumes As Incentives
It’s no secret that Taiwanese symphonic black metal band Chthonic are ready to do some uncommon things in the name of their personal mission (uncommon for metal bands, anyway). They out the first pitch at Taiwanese baseball games and vocalist Freddy Lim launched his own political party. This time around, though, the band is offering their fans a unique crowdfunding incentive: their sweaty stage costumes.
Yes, if you help Chthonic throw their 20th Anniversary concert at Liberty Square (AKA Chang Kai Chek Temple) with a donation of $60,000 dollars Taiwanese (approximately $2k US), you can have the members of Chthonic’s sweaty stage gear for your own sniffing pleasure. And while every member’s costume is offered — placed in a box immediately post-concert and washed or unwashed depending on your preference — guess whose costume has actually sold?
How unexpected! Doris Yeh, Chthonic’s attractive female bassist, got her costume bought first? Who expected that? I wonder if the band has ever considered using her sexuality to promote their music before?
In all fairness, frontman Freddy Lim’s unwashed costume was also purchased, so at least there’s equal-opportunity perving going on here. Still, though, you gotta grimace at the Japanese vending machine tactics being used to shill for Taiwan’s riffiest export. I can’t see this working for most metal artists who aren’t attractive women; I doubt anyone would drop nearly two grand on Nergal’s still-glistening leather robe or what have you. Then again, you could argue that it’s those people who would coo softly over a sweaty, smelly piece of stage gear worn by a real-live woman who are the creeps, not the band members taking advantage of their half-chubs.
ANYway, if you want to contribute to Chthonic’s concert, you can do so here. Doris’ bass string and sweat towel are still available, but you better act quick! Some dude with a Cheeto-goiter may be ready to outbid you.
