Listen: Periphery’s Misha Mansoor is Experimenting with Orchestral Music

misha mansoor halo 2Periphery have a little down time right now, with their most recent album Juggernaut having been released seven months ago already and no tour dates booked until their November/December run of Europe with Veil of Maya.

So, as you might expect, Misha Mansoor — who can never stop working — is keeping busy with writing new music. But instead of new Periphery (or Haunted Shores, or one of 10,000 other projects he’s involved with) he’s trying his hand at orchestral music, which is easier than ever to bring to life these days (but no harder to write) thanks to the magic of technology. The PRP posted a sample of a new cut Misha’s been working on, along with the following statement from the man himself:

I’m getting into Orchestral composition because I find it absolutely fascinating and there are so many amazing libraries out now that you can really get realistic results if you spend the time with it.

I still have a lot to learn, but I like to learn by doing, so this is one of my first relatively short attempts. The title should give away what I was going for. I like writing to imaginary Role Playing Games heheh

Here’s the clip. It’s short but it’s sweet, and yeah, this TOTALLY sounds like it could be the soundtrack for an epic battle with a video game boss.

We’ll be sure to bring you more of Misha’s orchestral compositions as he releases them to the world.
