Exclusive Album Stream: Cavern, Outsiders

Last month we introduced you to Maryland trio Cavern, whose third album Outsiders comes out today on Grimoire Records, a small DIY label based in Baltimore.

This album, their first fully instrumental effort, sees them moving in a more progressive direction than last year’s grittier Tales of Ruin without losing any of the heaviness. Tracks like “Hawkeye” and “Cloud Chaser” are on par with Red-era Baroness, with heavy influences from Mastodon and Russian Circles coming into play throughout. Without vocals to hide behind, the music opens up, revealing more innovative and mature songwriting. Since 2013’s self-titled debut these boys have grown, and they’ve brought their sound with them.
