Meet Romano, a German Rapper Obsessed with Black and Death Metal
In theory, Romano, a rapper who loves metal, should not really be noteworthy: after all, it’s not as though we’ve never seen a rapper who digs metal before. There’s Ice-T, for one thing, but also Necro, these guys, and probably some other dudes I’m forgetting right now.
But Romano is noteworthy. Because what sets him apart from other metal-loving rappers is that i) Romano is German, ii) Romano has pigtails, iii) Romano also loves The 49ers, iv) the lyrics to his song “Metalkutte” (English: “Metal Cowl”) are about metal and name drop a ton of metal bands, and v) the video for “Metalkutte” features an extended choreographed dance sequence in which all the back-up dancers are wearing corpse paint, which also isn’t exactly an original idea (Goldfrapp did it in 2010), but, again, German pigtails 49ers jacket.

I’m not entirely sure that Romano is aware of how hilarious this all is (especially to ‘Muricans like me, who find the German language to be equal parts funny- and scary-sounding), but I gotta give the guy credit: this song is now stuck in my head. Scheiße.
