What makes a good driving song?
A song that will give you the energy you need to make the drive time an epic moment! Whether it’s heavy or not, it has to have feeling and the right mood to fit the situation. For example, Guthrie Govan is perfect for when you don’t feel like listening to metal and the road is smooth enough so you can fully analyze the music. Guthrie is the perfect answer and the road will seem shorter!
Your list is quite varied, but one artist in particular sticks out: Bob Marley. Any risk of you falling asleep at the wheel during a long night’s drive to Marley’s chilled out vibes?
Haha, yes, maybe after a show, but there is a story behind that Marley song from our second trip through the Canadian Rockies in Alberta. I will always remember when Kevin [Chartre, guitars] and I where driving the bus through the mountains on the Origin/King Parrot tour and we were listening to this song… it was the perfect moment to have some Bob Marley playing in background.
The Stevie Ray version of “Little Wing” over Hendrix’s original — why?
I’m a big fan of Jimi Hendrix but honestly, for myself, I prefer Stevie’s version because 1) It’s longer, 2) He shreds like a beast, 3) The production is more clear and4) The feeling more intense. But again, it’s a personal preference.
Favorite Pantera album?
Cowboys from Hell.
Which bands are you looking forward to seeing and hanging out with on this year’s Summer Slaughter tour?
Obscura are good friends of ours but it’s been a while since we’ve seen them, so it will be a real pleasure to hang out with them again. We are really excited for this tour, to play alongside all these awesome bands and go to places we have never been. Rad time to come!
