Mobb Deep are Playing Maryland Deathfest This Year
Maryland Deathfest is now just one month away. This year’s edition of perhaps the best destination metal festival in the U.S. is gonna be a doozy: check out the ridiculously awesome lineup here, including Triptykon, Obituary, Devourment, Mantar, Primitive Man, Lock Up, Neurosis, Anaal Nathrakh, D.R.I., Early Graves, Napalm Death and SO so many more.
Entirely unexpected special guests at this year’s MDF: hip hop legends Mobb Deep.
After the fest’s opening night festivities come to a close at Baltimore Soundstage, the legendary hip hop outfit has a late set at the same venue with separate admission, completely unaffiliated with the fest. But either the Mobb Deep show isn’t selling well or the show’s promoters were in a loving mood yesterday (or both), because they’ve decided to let all MDF 4-day pass and Thursday single-day ticket holders into the Mobb Deep show for free.
While it seems like an odd fit at first, it actually makes a ton of sense: there’s plenty of crossover between extreme metal and hip hop, the older crowd that patronizes MDF would certainly be open-minded to this sort of thing… and a lot of metalheads are into hip hop in general, maybe even specifically Mobb Deep in the ’90s. Plus, by 11pm, a dozen or so beers into the day — who wouldn’t wanna keep hanging out to watch more music, especially something different??
More info here. Any MetalSucks readers who catch Mobb Deep at MDF absolutely must let us know how it goes!
