Sh*t That Comes Out Today: April 21, 2015
Hi MetalSucks reader! Welcome to another very special Shit That Comes Out Today, your satanic bible of this week’s heavy new releases. We list ‘em, we spotlight ‘em, we link you to their preview jams and full streams — and now, we stick ‘em in a fancy Spotify playlist too (below)! Now crank this shit up!
·
Abiotic
Casuistry (Metal Blade)
On a playlist with: Rings Of Saturn, Dysphoria, Archspire
Listen “Molecular Rematerialization” (here) “The Absence Of Purity” (here) “Cast Into The Depths” (here)
If you’re a tech-death fanboi/gurl, you probably wish for all the Rings Of Saturn madhouse technicality without the controversy? Wish granted! Regardless, your (dis)liking RoS will affect your appreciation of Casuistry by a factor of nil. It’s hard to find fault with Casuistry and its brilliant, unpretentious tech-death. Nothing wrong with simple pleasures like fun, fast, and furious music!
·
Shining
IX: Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends (Season of Mist)
On a playlist with: Castevet, Lifelover, Bosse-de-Nage
Listen IX: Everyone, Everything, Everywhere, Ends (here)
Not to be confused with the Norwegian band Shining is the Swedish band Shining and their new album IX: Everyone, Everything, etc. etc. etc. — which is definitely different than Norwegian Shining’s latest album One One One. So Swedish Shining is glossy black metal with the right amount of rock and riffs!
·
Infernal War
Axiom (Agonia)
On a playlist with: Sulphur Aeon, Veld, Massemord
Listen Axiom full stream (here)
There’s nothing wrong with doing nothing particularly groundbreaking. And with death metal, it’s all about writing snazzy riffs, making sure the drums are bru-tahl, and keeping things mixed up between tracks. Axiom is not axiomatic in any way, it’s just plain ol’ fun, and a solid release to add to your already bulging portfolio of modern death metal records.
·
Deathwish
Out For Blood (Beer City)
On a playlist with: Hirax, Deathrow, Holy Terror
Listen “Deathwish” (here)
Wisconsin is Canada’s Kentucky! But the cheeseheads in Death Wish know how to rock n’ roll. It’s straight-up rock metal, punky, fast, crunchy, boozy, and catchy as hell. Really boozy — again, if Kentucky is full of bourbon, then Out For Blood is drenched in cheap beer and shitty food. Actually, I love some brews from Wisconsin. And Death Wish.
·
Gruesome
Savage Land (Relapse)
On a playlist with: Death, Lord Dying, Morta Skuld
Listen Savage Land full stream (here)
It has been reported that Savage Land is a testament to super-god extraordinaire Chuck Schuldiner and his work with Death. No surprise that you can hear the influence, but it’s nice that there’s no copycatting! It’s a good time anytime there’s a way to hear more Schuldiner, even if through artistic interpretation. Like fan fiction.
·
Native Construct
Quiet World (Metal Blade)
On a playlist with: Between The Buried And Me, The Human Abstract, ???
Listen “Come Hell Or High Water” (here) “Mute” (here)
“Like, what the fuck?” That’s the reaction any reasonable person would have to Quiet World, perhaps the most un-quiet album to hit e-shelves today. It feels like every genre sandwiched between drums lifted from The Human Abstract and vocals best described as, uh, post-Queen? It’s hard to nail down, but Quiet World nails you down and you enjoy every wankerous, wanton second of it!
