Revolver‘s “Best Albums of 2014” List Includes Slipknot, Of Mice & Men, and Linkin Park
It’s just about time for those year-end lists to start rolling in. Decibel‘s picks are hitting newsstands and arriving in subscribers’ mailboxes even as I type this, and the staff of MetalSucks will reveal their favorite releases of 2014 right after we all return from Thanksgiving.
But we can start the internet flame wars a little early, ’cause Revolver‘s list has found its way online. According to Metal Insider, that list is as follows:
- Slipknot – .5: The Gray Chapter
- At The Gates – At War With Reality
- Of Mice & Men – Restoring Force
- Linkin Park – The Hunting Party
- Motionless In White – Reincarnate
- Behemoth – The Satanist
- Mastodon – Once More ‘Round The Sun
- Judas Priest – Redeemer Of Souls
- Machine Head – Bloodstone & Diamonds
- Every Time I Die – From Parts Unknown
- Godflesh – A World Lit Only By Fire
- The Pretty Reckless – Going To Hell
- Killer Be Killed – Killer Be Killed
- ††† (Crosses) – †††
- Black Label Society – Catacombs Of The Black Vatican
- Black Veil Brides – Black Veil Brides
- Body Count – Manslaughter
- Suicide Silence – You Can’t Stop Me
- Godsmack – 1000hp
- Triptykon – Melana Chasmata
The Revolver lists are always a little schizophrenic, because the staff has to find a balance between “tr00er” underground albums and the more mainstream stuff that their readership is into. So, on the one hand, you have to give them props for including bands like At the Gates, Godflesh, and Behemoth. On the other hand, it’s a little hard to take any list that places Godsmack above Triptykon. Or includes Godsmack at all.
Still, no list is ever really “definitive,” and ALL lists should be viewed as a jumping-off point for a discussion. So, on that note: head to the comments section to bitch and moan about Revolver‘s list and how it doesn’t include Gridlink or Electric Wizard or Defenestration Pussy or whatever other release you prefer to Motionless in White’s latest magnum opus. I’d ask you to keep it civil, but, y’know, what’s the point?
