Former Evile Guitarist Ol Drake Accepts Position as a “Spaceship Janitor”
Guitarist Ol Drake may have left Evile, but he hasn’t left metal: although he’s currently touring as a guitar tech for Destruction, he plans to release a solo album “of extreme instrumental guitar music” sometime next year via Earache, according to a press release. And now he’s offering fans a taste of that solo album in the form of the demo “Spaceship Janitor,” which, I’m sad to report, is only a working title.
So how does it sound? Like Drake has been mainlining shred albums from the early 90s. No joke, it wouldn’t have taken a whole lot to convince me this was an Extremist-era Joe Satriani track or something by Blues Saraceno or someone else of that ilk. I was actually a fan of all that stuff back in the day, so even though it took a couple of listens, the Drake track is, unsurprisingly, growing on me. It won’t change your life or anything, but it’ll get your foot tappin’ fer sure.
