Get Yer Experimental Black Metal On with Two New Falls of Rauros Songs
Falls of Rauros were one of my favorite new discoveries of 2011. The “epic black metal” thing might seem overdone three years later, but this Maine-based band brings an expansive, experimental take on the genre that I really, really enjoy. Falls of Rauros lean very lightly on traditional black metalisms, opting instead for acoustic guitars and dramatic atmosphere, and it’s that sense of experimentation — and their penchant for writing infectious guitar melodies — that makes them stand out from the pack. They’re like the best parts of Opeth and Agalloch rolled into one.
So I was delighted to learn that they’ve got a new album coming out on October 1st entitled Believe in No Coming Shore, and that there are already two tracks from the album available for streaming. I like them both, but the 10:50 “Waxen Voices” is my favorite — such an aural adventure! Check ’em out below.
