Sumac: New Band Features Current and Former Members of Isis, Russian Circles, and Baptists
Looks like Aaron Turner is not having a hard time keeping himself busy these days: besides the impending release of Old Man Gloom’s new album, Ape of God, he’s started a new band called Sumac with Baptists drummer Nick Yacyshyn (who is a fucking BEAST behind the kit). Although it’s not currently clear if he’ll also be performing with them live, Brian Cook (Russian Circles, ex-Botch, ex-These Arms Are Snakes) recorded the bass lines for the group’s debut release, The Deal, which will be out early next year on Profound Lore/SIGE Records.
Says Turner of the new project (via The PRP):
“We are pursuing this as a fully functional band rather than side project, with plans to play live in the coming year and continue with further writing/recording thereafter.”
To say this all sounds very intriguing would be putting it mildly. With The Deal tentatively scheduled for a February release, we should get to hear some new music (and maybe even learn about initial live dates?) soonish. Stay tuned…
