It’s Official: Faith No More are Making a New Album!!!
Although they’ve been hinting at it since May, Faith No More have, at last, confirmed that they are now working on their first new album in seventeen years (and assuming the new record drops in 2015, it will be eighteen years). According to a press release, the band is in a studio in Oakland, CA recording the album even as I type this, with bassist Billy Gould handling production duties. The group plans to put out the record on their own newly-formed imprint, Reclamation Recordings, which will be distributed via vocalist Mike Patton’s own Ipecac Recordings.
And as if that wasn’t exciting enough, we won’t even have to wait ’til the album comes out to get some new music: they’ll release a limited edition (5,000 pressings) 7″ of the song “Motherfucker,” which they debuted in July (when it was thought to be called “Motherfucker on the Phone”), as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 28, and will then release that same song as a digital single on December 9. Furthermore, Gould tells Rolling Stone that the album’s release will be followed by plenty of touring:
“We’ve always shared a chemistry between ourselves that’s unique to this band, but these past few years of touring together have made us aware that we not only play better as a unit, but we like the new stuff we’re coming up with. So we’ve decided: we’re going to get busy in 2015… make an album we’re proud of, kick things up a notch, get out there and perform it and maybe even dedicate a little more focus to our fans in the States this time.”
I think I’m more excited for this than I was for the new Carcass album and the new At the Gates album combined. The band have some high expectations to live up to, but I have plenty of, um, faith that they’ll match, and maybe even exceed, these expectations.
More news as we get it. In the meantime, check out the live rendition of “Motherfucker” below, then celebrate the great news in the comments sections.
