The “Borderline Animals with No Careers” in The Body Want $15,000 For a New Van
Crowdfunding has become fairly common, and IMO there’s nothing wrong with it. If fans are willing to hand over their money to help out a band they like, so be it, and they’re getting something tangible in return; no one is forcing fans to hand over cash for nothing, as crowd-funding detractors often argue.
But you’ve got to admire the candor with which sludge metal noise-bringers The Body are conducting a campaign to raise $15,000 for a new vehicle. For starters, the headline of their campaign is as self-deprecating as it gets, reading “please help us help ourselves live like a ‘real’ band.” But it gets even more real from there:
If you follow us, you know we tour a ton but we’ve never owned a van that wasn’t at least 12 years old and had over 200,000 miles upon us buying it from some freak on Craigslist. Honestly, we feel weird about crowd funding so we tried to offer stuff that we would be selling anyways in some other format. We would buy it with our own money but we’re borderline animals with no careers because we’ve thrown our lives in the toilet to tour 6 months a year and surprisingly, yelling to people doesn’t pay like it did in the 80’s.
A+ for honesty! So, there you have it: if you’re a fan of The Body go on and help fund their new van; they’re offering up some pretty neat perks in exchange for your monies.
