Is Ozzy Osbourne About to Release a New Solo Album?
Update, 11:03 am: Okay, so now we know that Memoirs of a Madman is, indeed, another greatest hits package. Per Ozzy’s YouTube page:
‘Memoirs of a Madman’ audio and video collections celebrate the legacy of Ozzy Osbourne. Single CD, two DVD set, 180g double vinyl and limited edition picture disc vinyl due out October 7th of Epic Records/Legacy Recordings. Pre-order available now at Amazon.
Here’s a trailer for the thing:
So that was anti-climatic.
Original story follows.
Is Ozzy Osbourne about to pull a Beyoncé?
Whomever runs the legendary metal vocalist and Alzheimer’s patient’s Facebook page has posted the following message:
“CALLING ALL FANS! Help unscramble Ozzy’s new cover art by using the hashtag #OzzyRules on Facebook and Twitter. The more you share the sooner it unlocks. GO!”
As of the time I’m writing this (for the record — it’s 9:30 a.m. EST right now), the cover is 95% complete already, and looks like this:
I suspect that by the time this is published, the cover will be complete, although, I mean, c’mon, that’s basically it.
So, clearly, it’s an album entitled Memoirs of a Madman. Question is: what da fuck is Memoirs of a Madman? The title suggests to me that it’s another greatest hits package (Ozzy’s sixth!), but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that The Ozzman recorded a new solo album (or even just an EP) on the DL.
Presumably, we’ll know soon. And regardless, I don’t think anyone should get too excited. It’s been more than two decades since Ozzy released any new music that’s actually memorable. So unless this is a collection of unused tracks from the No More Tears sessions…
