NO. NO NO. NO NO NO. NO.
Is rap metal staging a comeback – and are Howard Jones, Max Cavalera, and the dudes from Bad Brains all trying to help?
After reading this report on Blabbermouth that Jones, Cavalera, and members of Bad Brains will all make guest spots on a new album by “Brooklyn’s own” Ill Bill (which would feature cover art by Larry Carroll of Slayer fame, no less) I decided to head over to the Ill one’s MySpace page – I’d never heard of him and was curious about the talents of someone who could attract such illustrious guest artists.
I knew I was in for something awful as soon as I saw that Ill Bill is a member of La Coka Nostra, a hip-hop supagroup that includes DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit infamy. This was not going to be good.
Now, in all fairness, there are no samples of Ill Bill’s new album yet on the MySpace page – maybe they’re great. But what I hear is typical lowest common denominator (c)rap – not even something like Jurassic 5, something I can appreciate as a non-hip hop fan.
Cavalera has kept some pretty questionable company before, but dude… what the hell are Howard Jones and the fellas from Bad Brains thinking?
