This is an angry week. Below you’ll find a list of hyper-aggressive, sick, weird albums which seem to have been previously organized for release all on the same date. And how lucky you might feel! Except that in some cases, that kill-’em-all attitude doesn’t work so well. It’s up to you, dear reader, to find out which ones float your boat and which ones bomb your tastes into next Tuesday.

Sumeriancore can be moody sometimes, you know? Like BEM’s Breathe In Life (2011) and its slamcore riffage spotted by the occasional clean, pitched chorus. Overall it was a tight package, albeit kind of inappreciable if you’re not into the genre. Phantom is much messier and more progressive, and I’m not sure that will bode well for fans of Betraying The Martyrs. But hey, look at me: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Now compare You Can’t Stop Me to Betraying The Martyrs’ newest above. Hear the difference? Whereas Phantom is moderately reprehensible, Suicide Silence is true to form and fully reprehensible. It’s definitely a case of “well I don’t know what I expected.” Top tip: please don’t feed the trolls.

The Beast Of Left And Right (Retro Futurist)

As MetalSucks hero Vince Neilstein pointed out, The Beast Of Left And Right is exactly that: both left and right. It’s palindromic, thematically. Does it work? Eh, not really. Yes, you can tell that the album indeed mirrors itself, but it doesn’t add any special value over, say, an album with a traditionally thematic progression. Can’t always impress with shtick!

Say you wanted a fiery, djenty album with bits of The Safety Fire-inspired softness. You’d be right at home with No Sleep, which is, uh, fiery + djenty and tends to get softer at points. But the shifts don’t work very well in unison — “Erased” and “The Mixture” don’t even sound like they belong on the same album. Also, allow me to quote from “The Mixture.” Ahem! “So smile as you look in the mirror, give me my receipt now though, fuck this industry, excuse me to death, can we say fuck it, you can have metal.” Lolwat.

I think throwback metal speaks for itself — straightforward, shred-focused, high-octane shit and doesn’t need to be broken down by some lowly, pantsless writer. Notwithstanding, please entertain my special comment on Grave Digger’s The Return Of The Reaper: I don’t give a fuck how old these dudes or or what they’ve done in the past, this album rules.

The Lesch-Nyhan Syndrome EP is for the type of person who saves their own turds in the freezer. It falls squarely in that “completely unadulterated and insane” category from which a legitimate record can emerge sometimes. Even non-turdsavers can appreciate the feel of something raw, ethereal, and unedited. It reminds you of the lengths bands now go to add polish and also reminds you how unnecessary that may be.
