Today in Metallica News: Will Ferrell and Chad Smith Challenge Lars Ulrich to a Drum Off, Watch the First Episode of James Hetfield-Narrated The Hunt
Two unrelated Metallica stories about which you might like to know:
1) The first episode of The Hunt, the new History Channel mini-series narrated by one Mr. James Hetfield, is now available for viewing online. It’s not embeddable, but you can check it out here. You may recall that Hetfield’s participation in this series really pissed people off, but I suspect they’ll feel better once they watch it: the amount of overacting Hetfield does it kind of hilarious. Dude ain’t exactly Morgan Freeman, y’know?
2) I totally missed this news, but comedian/bane of Vince’s existence, Will Ferrell, and Red Hot Chili Peppers/Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith recently had a drum-off to benefit Cancer for College and Little Kids Rock. (Why would you want to send cancer to college? I don’t get it.) Now the duo tells Spin…
Will, you told Rolling Stone that you thought this could be “a rivalry that will go on until the end of time.” Do you have any other plans together?
Will: I mean, we did talk about another drum-off. With a third person that looks eerily similar to Chad and I. A third drummer out there.
Chad: I think it’s — did we talk about Lars [Ulrich]?
Will: We talked about Lars, from Metallica. So, I don’t know.
Have you heard anything back from him?
Will: Your article will be the first mentioning of it.
Chad: This is a scoop!
Will: Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now, too.
Chad: There it is. The gauntlet is down.
Ferrell and Smith are each 6’3″ while Ulrich is only 3’6″, and none of them look like each other, so I have no idea what the fuck these guys are talking about. Ulrich looks more like Peter Dinklage and Warwick Davis than he does either of these dudes. Still, I’d love to see this, if only because it would be hilarious to watch Ulrich get out-drummed by Ferrell. Fingers crossed it happens sometime soon…
