stOrk/Former Korn Guitarist Shane Gibson Has Passed Away
Update, 2:07 pm: stOrk have released the following statement regarding Gibson’s death:
“It is with deepest sadness and regret that we must confirm that stOrk founding member and lead guitarist Shane Paul Gibson passed away at 5:45 AM on April 15th, 2014 in the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama as a result of complications from a blood clotting disorder. He was 35 years old. Shane was one of the best guitar players the world has ever known and his virtuosity was matched only by his wit and generosity of spirit. He will be missed beyond measure.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all those who loved him as much as we did.”
Original story is below.
According to multiple posts on his Facebook page, guitarist Shane Gibson has passed away. No additional details are available at this time. He was thirty-five years old.
Gibson may be most famous for his time as the live guitarist for Korn after Brian “Head” Welch left that band in 2005, but his main project was stOrk, the incredible prog outfit which also featured revered drummer Thomas Lang. That band’s new album, Broken Pieces, is currently scheduled for release on April 29.
Our thoughts are with Gibson’s family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother.
