Indian’s Will Lindsay is Deafheaven’s #1 Fan
Update, 3/13/14, 10:59 a.m.: As many of you have pointed out in the comments section, it seems as though Lindsay is confusing Deafheaven for Ghost. Original story follows:
Everyone loves Deafheaven and everyone was completely blown away by last year’s Sunbather, right? I mean, it was one of the most universally beloved releases of 2013, wasn’t it?
Uh, apparently not. Even the most popular of bands are bound to have their detractors (there are people in the world who don’t like Gojira, which I find so confounding that it gives me headaches), and apparently Indian guitarist/vocalist Will Lindsay (formerly of Nachtmystium and Wolves in the Throne Room) has less-than-amicable feelings for Deafheaven. When recently asked about that band during an interview with Media Snobs, Lindsay said this:
“Um… I really don’t care [about Deafheaven]. Honestly, I don’t give a shit about Deafheaven. Deafheaven’s certainly not my idea of something extreme. I mean, I start thinking of things extreme on any spectrum and they’re the last thing I think of. I don’t find singing about Satan, wearing makeup and spending an hour dressing up to play shows—like you’re some fucking trust-fund kid from Scandanavia, richest part of the world—interesting. You know what? Fuck you. Your idea of extreme means nothing to me.”
Oof.
Lindsay’s opinions are clearly based as much on his perceptions of what the members of Deafheaven are like as they are on Deafheaven’s music, which makes me wonder if he’s had a run-in with ’em at some point. Personally, I wouldn’t let that deter me from appreciating Deafheaven — I’ve yet to throw away my copy of Rust in Peace, regardless of the fact that I think Dave Mustaine is a prick — but, hey, we’re all entitled to our opinions.
