Revolver Golden Gods Awards 2014 Will Feature Axl N’ Roses, Korn, Lots of Five Finger Death Punch Ball-Tickling
Revolver Magazine completely ignored my call to book Manowar to headline this year’s Golden Gods Awards. How dare they! My thinking: after last year’s Metallica headline performance, how much bigger could they get? MAN-O-WAR! MAN-O-WAR!
An official press release brings us the news that apparently the brass at Revolver decided Axl N’ Roses are a suitable follow-up to Metallica. GNR 2k14 aren’t nearly as popular as Metallica 2k14, but Axl’s perpetual mercurial nature is sure to make this show a big draw anyway. They’ve also got Korn, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, A Day to Remember and presumably Black Label Society and The Devil You Know, both of whom are on “The Road to Golden Gods” Tour, confirm to perform. “Appearances” (which I interpret to mean award presenters) will include Dave Navarro, Orianthi, Ace Frehley, Scott Ian, Jamey Jasta and Chino Moreno.
Elsewhere this year’s awards are quite commercial, to be expected from Revolver these days. Rather than get butthurt that Five Finger Death Punch or Halestorm will win another ten awards each, I choose to look at it this way: if some kid tunes in to see FFDP or Korn or because someone from Asking Alexandria or an equally terrible band was nominated, and in the process he or she gets turned onto Gojira or The Dillinger Escape Plan or Behemoth — all of whom are nominated for awards this year — well, that’s pretty cool. We all had to start somewhere, and I’m sure you’ve got all sorts of embarrassing musical skeletons in your closet too.
The event will take place on Wednesday, April 23rd at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Tickets will be available here starting February 28th.
