Did Emmure Change the Title of Their Song “Bring a Gun to School”?

Last week, Emmure announced the impending release of their latest album, and a lot of people — including founding guitarist Ben Lionetti — lost their shit because the record would reportedly include a song called “Bring a Gun to School.” I’m honestly still a little baffled by the reaction — metal fans (myself included) have routinely defended tracks with titles like “Skinned and Sodomized” and “Fucked with a Knife,” and one of the most revered metal songs of all time is about Auschwitz, so a song about school shootings that has an obviously ironic title shouldn’t really phase anyone. (Again, can’t believe I’m actually defending Emmure here. But there are plenty of reasons to hate this band that don’t have require feigned morality.) But I guess I’m in the minority, because The PRP reports that the album’s Victory Records pre-order page now says the song is called “(Untitled)”:

So here’s a question: are Emmure really giving into pressure, or is this just a giant scheme to ensure that their new release gets plenty of attention? I can’t help but be reminded of the whole Body Count/”Cop Killer” controversy from 1992. One day, nobody knew who Body Count were, and the next, Ice-T was on the cover of Rolling Stone (in a policeman’s uniform, no less). There’s no such thing as bad publicity.

Presumably the band will release a statement on the matter soon. So that oughta be entertaining, too.
