Thy Art is Murder Latest Band Involved in Soundwave Drama
So after Megadeth, Whitechapel, Jason Newsted, and at least four other bands all cancelled their appearances on the tour, Australia’s Soundwave Festival finally kicked off this past Saturday, February 22 in Brisbane… at which point Thy Art is Murder immediately got themselves kicked off the tour. Why? Because not only did they invite the crowd up on stage with them — a not entirely unusual happening in the world of extreme music — but they apparently told fans to “smash” security if they needed to in order accept this invitation.

Soundwave head honcho AJ Maddah eventually allowed the band back onto the trek, under the condition that that “there are no further displays of gross stupidity.” (I guess Thy Art is Murder’s music doesn’t count.) For their part, TAiM offered the following profuse and very sincere-sounding apology:
This strikes me as being very much along the lines of last year’s whole The Ocean/Summer Slaughter stage diving drama, where both sides have a valid point. So maybe the same way Summer Slaughter just isn’t really the right outlet for stage diving and a Thy Art is Murder show isn’t really the right place for having fun or hearing good music, Soundwave just ain’t the place to have all your fans come up on stage. Shrug.
