Cinemetal Mega Round-Up: New Videos from Korn, Dream Theater, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Death Angel, and More
I’m going to put about as much effort into this introduction as the Red Hot Chili Peppers put into concealing the fact that their instruments weren’t even plugged in at the Super Bowl.
We begin today with “Pathfinder,” the new video from Fleshgod Apocalypse. The budgetary restrictions of the clip definitely show, but the song is SO KILLER. Fun fact: the video was co-directed by Francesco Paoli!
Next up, we have Dream Theater’s new video, for the song “The Looking Glass.” It’s a random mish-mosh of different ideas that never really coheres into anything interesting. Mostly, I just couldn’t stop thinking about how James LaCheese is on the fast track to joining The Joey Belladonna Scary Old Lady Club.
Moving right along! Death Angel’s new clip, “Left for Dead,” was shot during the recording of the band’s most recent album, The Dream Calls for Blood, at Audiohammer Studios. As a result, it features a bunch of footage of producer Jason Suecof, and is therefore 1,000% sexier than almost any other metal video ever produced.
Remember Van Halen’s video for “Hot for Teacher”? Yeah well Benighted’s “Experience Your Flesh” clip is almost exactly the same, only totally fucked-up and violent and nightmare-inducing. Besides that, though…!
Brutal Truth’s new video is for the song “The Stroy” (that’s not a typo). The accompanying press release didn’t credit a director, but the whole thing plays like a bad acid trip, so I’m assuming it was directed by David Hall. Kinda sad to think that this could be the final collaboration between Hall and BT.
And we conclude today with Korn’s new video, for the song “Spike in My Veins.” This is the 3,749,581,615th metal video to feature just a bunch of random media footage edited rapidly together in an effort to demonstrate both how fucked up the world is and that the band has cable and sometimes watches CNN for a few minutes while their butler replaces the batteries in the remote. It’s not that I disagree with Korn about the media often distracting us from the real issues — it’s that I don’t think the poster boys for late-90s/early-aughts MTV rawk have any business looking down at Miley Cyrus or Kanye or President Obama, for that matter.
