Albums That Will #$@&%*! Your Face Off in 2014: Woods of Desolation’s As the Stars
Woods of Desolation
As The Stars (Northern Silence Records)
Release Date – February 14, 2014
Until only a few months ago, I’d never heard of Australian one-man black metal band Woods of Desolation. However, through Invisible Orange’s weekly radio show, I’ve become a massive fan of the band’s brand of soaring, emotional sonic assault. Imagine riding a horse across a misty Scottish moor, with sword raised high and a scream on your lips, towards the looming silhouette of a monstrous figure who may well be God Itself. That’s sort of what this band sounds like.
Which is why I’m so fucking stoked that they’re (‘they’ being a relative term; really, I just mean frontman and multi-instrumentalist D) releasing a new record this year. Currently dubbed As The Stars, the album drops on Valentine’s Day, which is appropriate given that there’s something about this music’s melancholy, elemental sound that makes it ideal for long-form boning and deeply-impassioned cunnilingus (for fellatio, always listen to Damageplan).
Here’s “Darker Days” off of the band’s last album, Torn Beyond Reason. Get ready to have your heart torn out this Valentine’s by the modern masters of yearning black metal.
