Indian Get “Directional” Literally and Figuratively on New Track
I so very much wanted to like the two tracks that Chicago sludgesters Indian released from their new album in the waning days of 2013 — seeing as how I loved their 2011 effort Guiltless — but I found myself a bit disappointed by them. Both tracks felt a bit aimless to me, meandering, lacking in focus.
But thankfully Indian have now released a third track called “Directional” and it’s the doozy I’ve been hoping for all this time: it’s uncompromising, it’s dissonant, it’s a slow, sludgy swamp thing, like Bigfoot emerging from a muddy bog ever so deliberately, weighed down by several layers of stinky, filthy silt. As Invisible Oranges — who premiered the track — said about Guiltless, it’s “a fuzzed-out sludge/doom monster.”
