A QUICK LOOK AT THE BANDS I DON’T REALLY KNOW FROM THE NEMHF 3RD STAGE
Have you heard the good news, brother? The New England Metal and Hardcore Fest has added a third stage for younger bands with whom concert goers might be less familiar.
Looking over the list, I already know one terrible band that will be on this stage (Oceano) and two excellent bands that will be on this stage (Brother Von Doom and The Destro), but there are a lot of names here I’m not familiar with. Thus, I am now going to listen to some of those bands via various channels (really just one channel – MySpace) and make some snap judgements. So, in no particular order:
Some questions: Why are these dudes all wearing white shirts and black pants? Do you think it’s possible Hatebreed is really to blame for all deathcore? And…
…haven’t I seen the concept for this video somewhere before?
See, now, in that video, you don’t know the chick is bad news until the end, which is a nice little twist. The We Were Gents video tries to create tension through the use of dramatic irony, but does so to poor effect, mostly because it pretty much just devolves into Saw XIII.
Holy shit. What is this? It’s like old, good Norma Jean on steroids on speed on cocaine. I don’t know if I think that’s a good thing or a bad thing. Here’s what I do know: it looks like they really bring it when playing some basement for ten people. And I seriously, sincerely mean that as a compliment.
No one ever speak to me of this band again. Jesus, it’s like having sandpaper rubbed against my ears.
“This will not be quick for you.” Yeah, no shit.
This isn’t terrible, actually. It isn’t the most original thing I’ve ever heard, but by comparison to Pictures of Winter, it’s fucking Master of Puppets. I’m really digging this song “Ataxia.” I could see this band making a good album if they ever get signed.
If you’re looking for the next great hardcore band… this isn’t it.
Everything you need to know about this band is in these photos:
There’s a reason this is one of the few signed bands on this roster.
Are those seriously my only choices?
There’s a few parts of some of these songs that I think are kinda cool, but mostly, not so much.
No thank you.
Nope.
Hey there! Not too shabby! Black Dahlia Murder fans will dig this band. I must investigate further…
I like this more than I probably ought to.
See entry for Broadcast the Nightmare. The auto-tuned clean vox gots to go, though.
‘Cause they certainly won’t be around tomorrow.
In conclusion: don’t forget to check out Brother Von Doom and The Destro!
