SHARON OSBOURNE SAYS SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SENSE!
Generally speaking, all evidence suggests that Sharon Osbourne is a real bitch. This is not news. So when I saw the headline SHARON OSBOURNE Goes Off On Reporter on Blabbermouth, I kind of naturally assumed that some reporter had asked Sharon an honest question that had in some way suggested something insulting, and Sharon, not being the kind of person who likes it when someone speaks truth to power, flipped her shit.
Turns out that’s not really what happened at all; in fact, it would seem that Sharon is, for once, the good guy in this particular fracas.
See, as you probably know, the Osbourne family is hosting a terrible new show on Fox, Osbournes Reloaded. And apparently some reporter asked Sharon if she thought the show might attract some controversy, given that it’s supposed to be a family-friendly show, and pretty much every Osbourne has had a drug and/or booze addiction at some point.
And then Sharon lost it:
“That must be the most ridiculous question I have ever been asked in my entire career,” Sharon spewed. “I’m really angry. Do you know how many people in this country alone suffer from addiction?
“This is a terrible epidemic that covers every race,” she continued. “It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, black or white. It’s an epidemic of drugs and alcohol in this country. OK? And all my family are examples of being truthful about their condition and working through it and trying to better themselves as human beings.”
She continued, “You know that we have been so open about our lives. My husband has struggled with addiction his entire life. And my son has been clean and sober for six years and lives a very, very strict AA lifestyle. And, so if anything he is a beacon of hope to any young person in this country who is struggling with addiction. So when you talk about family, we are family and we are a real family. I’ve taken real offense, because you know why? We’re real people. And probably half of the people watching our show, they have someone in their family who has a problem with alcohol and drugs.”
And you know what? Sharon is actually right. I mean, I don’t know if she’s being honest about Jack staying sober for six years – legal reasons prevent me from naming names, but I know a LOT of your favorite metal stars who claim to have sobered up are completely full of shit – but her general point is actually correct. Addiction is a health issue, regardless of what certain parties might have you believe,
Plus, as she says, most people who watch the show probably have struggled, or know someone who has a struggled, with addiction. I mean, you’d have to be fucked up to enjoy this…
…right?
