Motorhead Drummer To Lemmy: ‘It’s Time You Started To Take Care Of Yourself’

Last we heard, Motorhead was forced to cut short an appearance at Wacken Open Air due to frontman Lemmy Kilmister’s illness. That happened early in August and came after a few cancelled dates and a lot of reportage on Lem’s failing health, so we’ve been choking back a sob for a couple months now. Well, here’s some good news cherry-picked from a new interview with Classic Rock:

“It was nothing. I’m over it.”

“I don’t like people telling me what to do, even if they might be right.”

“I can still stand at that mic every night and play my songs. I’m getting better. By the time the tour comes around I’ll be ready.”

“We plan to go on [once retired from touring someday]. Maybe we’ll just make albums; we’ll be like The Beatles after 1966.”

That last quote is most significant: Lemmy helps to assure us that now he truly is well enough to continue — by admitting that someday Motorhead will be a studio-only band. Until then, we’re meant to believe that he’s good to go, hot to trot, and down to party. Would Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee agree with this decree?

“I think after all he’s been through, I’d say this: ‘Lem, when are you going to get sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? it’s time you started to take care of yourself.’”

Sounds like Dee isn’t buying Lem’s claim about a clean bill of health. Now I don’t know what to believe. Sigh, for now I’ll just keep wincing at every chime of my phone.
