GWAR Cover Billy Ocean
So, hey, remember how GWAR covered Kansas’ “Wayward Son” for The A.V. Club last year as part of series wherein bands cover other bands who you wouldn’t expect them to cover? And remember how it was really awesome and everyone pretty fell in love with it? Well, somewhat unsurprisingly, it was voted as the best performance in that series, and GWAR were, consequently, invited back.
This time, they covered Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” (along with a smidge of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley,” with Beefcake the Mighty handling vocals!). I think I like it even better than the Kansas cover, if for no other reasons than because a) Oderus Urungus told Metal Insider that the band selected this song specifically because they knew that “we knew EVERYBODY would fucking hate” it, and b) right now thousands of young GWAR fans are asking themselves, “Who the fuck is Billy Ocean?”
On a related note, I’d just like to add that YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER GET IN A CAR WITH GWAR UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Okay? It’s not safe!!!
GWAR’s latest, Battle Maximus, is out now on Metal Blade.
