Rounds 29-32: Kiss Vs. Shadows Fall, Korn Vs. Ghost, The Haunted Vs. Suicide Silence, Guns N’ Roses Vs. Liturgy
Alright, now shit is starting to get serious! While two of yesterday’s bouts were pretty much first round knockouts, with Otep posing no serious threat to Rob Zombie and Dream Theater putting Dragonforce to sleep, two of the matches were insanely close: in the end, Queensrÿche triumped over Poison by 115 votes… while Morbid Angel beat Fear Factory by a measly 4 VOTES!!! Holy crap, that’s intense!
Today, we finish up the first round of fights with some more battles that we think are gonna be real doozies. Cast your votes below! The polls close tomorrow, Thursday, July 18 at 4:30 pm EST.
The beef with Shadows Fall seems to be primarily the simple fact that they make metalcore; on the other hand, the dudes in Kiss are, without a doubt, money grubbing pieces of shit whose breakthrough album was a live album that wasn’t really live. Do you really love “Rock N’ Roll All Nite” enough to give The Shads their walking papers? Vote below!
We imagine this is gonna be another close one! Korn may very well have been THE gateway band for fans who came of age in the mid/late 90s, while Ghost are easily one of the most buzzed-about — and divisive — bands of the last few years. Which one deserves more credit than they get? Choose your champion!
THE HAUNTED VS. SUICIDE SILENCE
People like to crap on The Haunted for allegedly having lost their death metal edge, while people like to crap on Suicide Silence for allegedly not being death metal at all (speaking of Korn…). But to fans of certain generations, these bands loom very, VERY large in the memory as trailblazers in their respective subgenres (melodeath, deathcore). Which is more commendable? You decide!
Will the trend of so-called “hipster metal bands” overcoming their poppier opponents continue? Avenged Sevenfold weren’t able to take down Burzum, and Mötley Crüe fell to Sunn O))); GN’R are about a bajillion times more famous than Liturgy, but Liturgy has staunch supporters at places like The New York Times, which is, like, prestigious and stuff. Whether or not Axl Rose or Hunter Hunt-Hendrix turned out to be the bigger douchebag with the more overrated music is up to you! Vote now!!!
