Slipknot’s Shawn “Clown” Crahan Announces Feature Film Directing Debut, Officer Downe
From Deadline:
“Slipknot metal musician Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahanis set to make his directing debut with Officer Downe, adapted from the graphic novel by comics vet Joe Casey (X-Men, Gødland) and Chris Burnham. Casey wrote the script based on the Man of Action/Image Comics-released one-shot, about an LA supercop routinely killed in the line of fire who’s resurrected and sent back out into the fray time after time. The project has producer Skip Williamson (Underworld, Crank) and director Mark Neveldine (Crank, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance) onboard to produce alongside Casey and Man of Action, with Slipknot manager Cory Brennan exec producing. The team is eyeing franchise potential with Officer Downe, which has a sizable fanbase in Crahan’s Slipknot fame to propel online buzz.”
I don’t know anything about the Officer Downe comic, and, frankly, I doubt the film to have “franchise potential” due to Clown’s “sizable fame” (ask Rob Zombie how many fans of his music showed up for his movie). That being said, I am EXTREMELY excited about this news, because the eventual DVD director’s commentary is bound to be a hoot.
Here’s a video of Clown announcing the project:
