Ministry’s Al Jourgensen: “I Got Paid to Humiliate Fred Durst”
Oh I hope that this is a true story!
While promoting his new autobiography, his autobiography, Ministry: The Lost Gospels According to Al Jourgensen, Mr. Jourgensen shared the following lil’ anecdote with Rolling Stone:
“The Limp-dickster motherfucker, whatever his name is. I got him naked and in a cowboy hat [in a recording studio]! I’m showing him, ‘Look, you want my sound? This is my sound. This is what I use.’ And he wouldn’t believe it because just by hitting the magic button on the harmonizer that it wouldn’t make him sound exactly like me. He was that naïve. I’m like, ‘Well, try the cowboy hat.’ So I gave him my cowboy hat. . . and it still sounded like shit. So I go, ‘Why don’t you try and get naked? That’s how I sing.’ I was just bullshitting him. So he goes out and does that, and is thoroughly embarrassed, again. And then he just left. I got paid to just humiliate him for three songs. It was awesome.”
As great as that story is, I kinda don’t buy it. For one thing, Durst is dumb, but I’m not sure that anyone is that dumb. For another thing, if he’d paid Jourgensen to do a guest spot on a Limp Bizkit album or whatever, I have to assume that we would today have some evidence of that collaboration — that is, that Jourgensen wouldn’t really be able to walk away scott-free without contributing anything to sessions for which he was paid. And finally, I don’t think Limp Bizkit would have covered Ministry’s “Thieves” if Durst truly felt humiliated by Jourgensen.
Still… I’d love to believe that this actually happened. Can anyone else out there corroborate?
