Go Pound for Pound with Converge
Well this is pretty goddamn cool.
Last year, Converge released a sweet split with Napalm Death, which included a cover of Entombed’s classic “Wolverine Blues” featuring multiple all-star guest vocalists — specifically, Tomas Lindberg (At the Gates, Disfear), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom), and Kevin Baker (All Pigs Must Die, The Hope Conspiracy). Of course, coordinating all those dudes’ schedules to get them all in the studio at once would have been a serious pain in the ass and then some, so they did no such thing — each vocalist recorded the entire song separately, and were then edited together later on.
Now Converge have released Pound for Pound: The Wolverine Blues Sessions, an EP which contains all five separate recordings of the song produced in order to make the final version. In addition to the three aforementioned vocalists, there are also individual tracks for Converge’s own Jacob Bannon and Nate Newton (and Kurt Ballou appears on Lindberg’s version). The results don’t just kick major ass, but provide an interesting look at the construction of the final song.
You can stream both Pound for Pound and the resulting “Wolverine Blues” cover from the split below, and purchase them each for download via Converge’s Bandcamp page. Enjoy!
