And Now, Ornate Photos of the Foods on Famous Musicians’ Tour Riders
The photographer Henry Hargreaves recently created an, uh, interesting pictorial for Vice: he checked out “a few riders from some of the biggest [music] acts in the world,” and then he took very pretty pictures of some of the items included therein. The results somehow make these items, “all of which were ridiculous*” according to Hargreaves, seem both that much more ridiculous and somehow, well… elegant. It’s seems initially to be a bizarre idea, but the contrast kinda sums up our rock stars perfectly — they’re crazy people doing beautiful things.
I’ve included the ones related to metal and hard rock below; head over to Vice to see the others, which include entries pertaining to Prince, Lady Gaga, and The New Kids on the Block, to name but a few.
Axl Rose
Fresh Wonder Bread (white), Dom Perignon
Billy Idol
One tub I can’t believe it’s not Butter!, Pepperidge Farms Soft Baked Nantucket Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Foo Fighters
Big-ass kielbasas that make men feel self-conscious.
Marilyn Manson
Gummi bears.
Nine Inch Nails
Two boxes of corn starch.
Van Halen
Herring in sour cream, large tube of KY jelly, M&M’s (Warning: absolutely no brown ones).
*In the musicians’ defense, I’ve always heard that they’re fully aware of how ridiculous their requests are, and that those odd requests are included to make sure the promoter reads the agreement carefully. I have no idea if that’s actually true or not, though. I mean, it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility that Trent Reznor really thinks he NEEDS two boxes of corn starch to go on every night.
