Download Patlapse, a Relapse Records Compilation for a Great Cause
Regular readers have no doubt noticed that this week’s slogan makes reference to the passing of Pat Egan, who has been the director of retail sales and marketing for Relapse Records for the past ten years. He was, as a statement from the label says, “instrumental in the success of almost all of the bands and records Relapse has released over the past decade.” And he had a long history with metal going back much further than that. Egan died earlier this week as a result of complications from pneumonia, and he leaves behind a wife and daughter. I didn’t write a piece about Pat because the truth is, I didn’t know him very well. But the few times we did hang out, he was incredibly cool. Vince knew Pat much better, and I know he has nothing but nice things to say about the dude. His death is a great loss to the metal community, and the fact that he leaves a family behind is a tragedy.
Relapse is now paying tribute to Pat, as well as trying to benefit his family, with Patlapse, an awesome new compilation that features all of the Relapse catalog’s heaviest hitters, including Death, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Pig Destroyer, Dying Fetus, and Revocation, to name but a few. Some of the songs are certainly “Relapse’s greatest hits,” but some are much newer, and there’s a previously-unreleased track from Exhumed to boot. All of the bands featured on the compilation have waived their royalties, and Relapse isn’t keeping a dime — all proceeds will go to a college fund for Pat’s daughter, Katie. And it only costs five bucks for a high-quality digital download.
Obviously, this is both a steal and a great cause, and on behalf of everyone at MetalSucks, I encourage you purchase the comp. You can also stream it below, in case that list of amazing artists somehow didn’t sell you on it immediately.
