Up Jumped the Devil: Living Colour Have the “Preachin’ Blues”
Living Colour, a band that still makes Vince and I feel like giddy fanboys, are currently working on a new album, and now we have our fist sampling of music from that album: a cover of Robert Johnson’s “Preachin’ Blues (Up Jumped the Devil),” which the band performed at the Million Man Mosh II event in NYC recently, and which they say will appear on the aforementioned new release. The original song, obviously, isn’t metal, and this version doesn’t start out being very rock, either — but the band quickly takes it to their own place (three cheers for covers that aren’t just boring xeroxes of the original!).
Unsurprisingly, Corey Glover’s pipes still sound amazing, and Vernon Reid plays a solo so ridiculous that the crowd bursts into applause when it’s over. Man, this band is so great. Enjoy:
