Jason Newsted is a “Soldierhead”

I did not feel all that encouraged by the sample of new Jason Newsted music we heard last week. But now “Soldierhead,” a song by his new, cleverly-named band, Newsted, has found its way out into the world, and it’s better than I thought it would be. I mean, I don’t think it’s anything spectacular, but it’s certainly better than 99% of the music Newsted made with Metallica, or 99% of anything that band has made since his departure. Metal Insider describes it ” a mix of Motorhead and Testament,” which is apt. Check it out below and see what you think:

Side note: does anyone else think the band logo on the drum kit in the above photo looks suspiciously like the cover of the self-titled Voivod album on which Newsted appeared?
