Unsigned and Unholy: Ortega, Your Highness, Beyond Creation
Three more excellent, hand-picked, unsigned bands from the hordes of emails flooding the MS Mansion inbox. This week we’ve got a little something for everything.
Ortega remind me of a mix between latter day Pelican’s dark, tight soundscapes, Isis’ pentient for jamming things out at great length, and a touch of The Ocean’s sense of progginess. They’ve only got one track posted on their Bandcamp page, but it’s an 18-minute doozy:
If you dig the recent trend in Thin Lizzy-revival metal but wish those bands would utilize a modern metal vocal approac, you’re in luck: Your Highness are here for the win. Not only do these guys bring the dual-guitarmony, classic groove goodness and the glass-shard-gargling vocal style, but the production’s really raw and organic sounding as well. If Thin Lizzy were just getting started in 2012, this is what it’d sound like to stand in their garage and listen to them practice. Great band name, too.
If you dig Obscura and Gorod, don’t miss the opportunity to check out Montreal’s Beyond Creation. This style of tech-death has once again become uncool of late, but Beyond Creation want to party with you and their fretless 6-string bass like it’s 2009 all over again! Dudes know how to throw a bangin’ party, though. Here’s a new video for “Omnipresent Perception” from their debut album The Aura. Check it:
