In Which We Mourned the Loss of Mitch Lucker and Celebrated the Death of Hurricane Sandy

Suicide Silence frontman Mitch Lucker died yesterday at the age of 28 in a tragic motorcycle accident. We looked through photos from his last days taken from his Instagram account, we learned more about the accident itself and we heard from his widow at the candlelight vigil that alcohol played a role in the accident. R.I.P., Mitch. Our thoughts continue to be with Mitch’s widow, his daughter, and all of his friends and family.

Here’s what else happened in the metal world this week:

• We declared an indefinite hiatus due to Hurricane Sandy but then promptly reunited the next day. King’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill and Brooklyn recording studios Translator Audio and The South Sound were not as lucky; both were completely wiped out by the storm. Thankfully, everyone at MetalSucks is safe and sound.
• Slayer hawked their wares to a Google Chromebook commercial and we debated whether that means they “sold out” or not. In related news, W.A.S.P. frontman Blacklie Lawless doesn’t mind sacrificing his ideals if it means making a buck.
• Devin Townsend and Jed Simon performed Strapping Young Lad material live for the first time in seven years.
• Mastodon’s Troy Sanders joined Max Cavalera and Greg Puciato’s supergroup.
• God Forbid’s Doc Coyle reignited his “Hoop Logic” NBA column for the 2012-2013 season, Dave Brockie covered all the Week 8 NFL action, and Job For A Cowboy’s Tony Sannicandro published some more guitar technique tips in The Leads Are Weak.
• Encrust bassist Jeremy Pyrzynski walked us through his live setup.
• We premiered a new track by Finnish death-doom supergroup Koulemanlaasko.
