WE’VE FINALLY BENEA REACHED AN ALBUM PREVIEW FOR JANUARY’S POSSESSION
Vince and I have been fluffing ourselves (separately) over the Norwegian band Benea Reach for years now. There’s plenty that’s familiar in this band’s sound (especially now that some time has passed since their first two releases and several other bands have embraced the djent-y, Meshuggah-ish sound), but also a great deal of aural divergence in the manner that their songs traverse the melodic spectrum. For a band so heavy, it seems unusually fitting when a softer pretty section takes you by half-surprise. I say only half because it all flows so well.
Early last year we got our pants wet at the prospect of seeing them play live at SXSW 2011, only to promptly have that dream snatched away with the fury of a girl scout on her first period. Something tells me we’ll get a chance to witness their show stateside sometime next year, once their new album Possession comes out on January 25th, but in the meantime check out a song-by-song preview of the upcoming album below:
