Soundgarden Will Be Inducted Into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame
It’s been far too common a scenario over the last few years that bands up for initiation into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have gotten snubbed. Hell, some major acts like Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, and still haven’t gotten inducted. Yet over the weekend, one major oversight was corrected, as it was announced that Soundgarden was joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
They’re joined by a pretty stacked lineup of inductees, with Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, OutKast, and The White Stripes all making the grade. According to the hall, the dddsdSoundgarden lineup getting the nod will be Matt Cameron, Chris Cornell, Ben Shepherd, Kim Thayil, and Hiro Yamamoto.
In addition to the regular inductees, the Rock Hall is presenting these acts with special awards that effectively also includes them in the inductions this year:
- Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will be presented with the Musical Influence Award
- Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye will receive the Musical Excellence Awards
- Lenny Waronker will get the Ahmet Ertegun Award
Speaking of this year’s inductees, John Sykes, chairman of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, praised this year’s class for pushing music forward in their time.
“Each of these inductees created their own sound and attitude that had a profound impact on culture and helped to change the course of rock and roll forever. Their music gave a voice to generations and influenced countless artists that followed in their footsteps.”
This year’s induction ceremony will take place on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. And as that location would suggest, it will be live streamed on Disney+, with an edited down version getting on ABC later.
